Changing the game for Black hair with Dove

85% of Black gamers think Black hair is poorly represented in games.

…let’s fix that.

Edelman worked with Dove, The Open Source Afro Hair Library, and Black aritsts and game developers to create a detailed guide educating game studios on the cultural signficance of Black hair and how to more accurately recreate its unqiue texture in games.

As the lead writer on the project, and a Black gamer myself, I was responsible for ghost-writing the opening chapters of the guide for celebrity hair stylist Nai’Vasha Grace, editing the content recieved from game developer contributors, and providing editorial oversight.

The result?

Dove’s Code my Crown guide is throwing a spotlight on the gaming industry’s diveristy issue, achieving media coverage in major global outlets including Vogue, Bustle, Forbes, Rolling Stone and others. Plus, the work was named Campaign of the Week in Contagious.

Now that’s a win.
